Our Story

Numbers Foundation is a non-governmental organization that was founded on December 7, 2019 in Tanzania by Mr. Agrey Kimaro and friends. The Foundation was established in response to a growing concern about the general performance of mathematics in Tanzania and its potential impact on the future development of professions that require strong mathematics and science skills.

The primary reason for commencing Numbers Foundation was to address the significant challenges faced by students in mathematics education in Tanzania. Mr. Agrey Kimaro recognized that a strong foundation in mathematics is essential for success in various fields, including Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) professions. However, there was a need for additional support and resources to improve the teaching and learning of mathematics in the country.

Since its establishment in 2019, Numbers Foundation has experienced significant growth and has achieved several major accomplishments.

  • a) Registration: The organization officially registered as an NGO on 12/8/2021, under the registration number 00NGO/R/2112. This formalized its commitment to its mission and allowed it to engage in activities aimed at improving mathematics education.
  • b) Mathematics awareness: Numbers Foundation launched the “Give Back with math” project to enrich students’ awareness of the importance of mathematics. This initiative has reached students at various educational levels, including primary, secondary and higher education.
  • c) School visit: the Foundation organized school visits to provide remedial teaching and guidance services in sampled schools in the Arusha and Kilimanjaro regions of Tanzania. This hands-on approach has helped students improve their mathematical skills and confidence.
  • d) Mathematical Technical Workshops (M.T.W): Numbers Foundation has conducted workshops aimed at developing teachers ‘skills in teaching mathematics effectively. These workshops have focused on different approaches to problem-solving and have provided a platform for modelling and coaching teachers to enhance their abilities through peer reviews and collaborative learning.
  • e) Rewarding Excellence: the Foundation has recognized and rewarded the most improved students, best-performer, students with good work presentation, teachers and other educational stakeholders who have shown excellence in mathematics achievements and contributions to the field’s development. These acknowledgements have motivated individuals to excel in mathematics. Numbers Foundation made significant strides in its mission to promote mathematics education in Tanzania and has positively impacted students, teachers and the broader educational community. Through its various initiatives, it has worked to transform negative attitudes toward mathematics into positive ones and has contributed to the development of mathematics education in the country.
